Day Hikes
Shifting Gears provides opportunities to explore beyond the boundaries of Bellingham and what the mountains of Washington offer. Do you love keeping your feet on the ground, moving slowly through the outdoors, and taking in the gorgeous landscape of places like Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest? If so, we encourage you to join us for one of our monthly day hikes!
Our Day Hikes are designed to make individuals feel comfortable and empowered on hiking trails. The day hikes vary in length and elevation gain, but typically we find routes that are achievable for everyone. Expect to hike around 6-9 miles and 1500' - 3000' depending on the hike.
We are here to adventure together, work through challenges, and celebrate every one of us for taking a chance to set out on an adventure together. We spend all day at a casual pace, taking breaks when needed, taking in the sights, and supporting each other.
Day hikes are at least two trip leaders, so there will always be someone there to provide you with directions, help, fuel, emotional support, and more! The day hikes are free to participate in and open to all women. We provide transportation and depart from downtown Bellingham. You can expect to spend a full day with us! We limit the groups to 10 participants; pre-registration is required through the links below.

The trail starts in cool woods and descends about 2 miles and 800 feet to a lush meadow and Swift Creek. Then the trail switches uphill 1000 feet through boulder fields and meadows. At about 4 miles you reach the saddle above Lake Ann. The close-up view of Mt. Shuksan and its glaciers is unforgettable.
