Welcoming Recreation for All

4TH ANNUAL
WILD WOMEN WEEK 2022

March 1st - 8th

~ DEFINING OUR OWN WILD ~

Help us take over the outdoors March 1st through 8th in celebration of #Internationalwomensday!

Spend the week being a Wild Woman hiking, biking, strolling, running, kayaking or whatever gets you pumped and feeling empowered (list of suggested & virtual activities coming soon).

The 4th Annual Wild Women Week is a chance for us as women to celebrate ourselves and each other, to discover opportunities for growth and community and to make ourselves seen and heard.

This year's celebration will include:

A Virtual Adventure Film Night
and
The crowning of our 4th Wild Woman of the Year!

Who are we celebrating during Wild Women Week?
At Shifting Gears we hope the week can be an opportunity to celebrate the wide spectrum of genders that exist outside of the cisnormative gender binary. While the celebration was inspired by International Women’s Day, gender identity goes way beyond sex assigned at birth. Our community is made up of a beautiful diversity of genders, and during Wild Women Week, we want to get wild and dirty with YOU.

Expedition Reclamation weaves together a tapestry of voices from 12 Black, Indigenous, and women of color who are redefining “outdoorsy” and reclaiming belonging in outdoor culture. This story begins with an honest exploration of how BIPOC communities have always been connected to the land, but how through the lasting lineage of colonialism, spaces of outdoor recreation have systematically excluded them. Emerging from these interwoven experiences of homesickness, resilience, and joy is a rally cry to the outdoor industry: to re-examine our understanding of the history of outdoor spaces, to commit to what inclusion really looks like in practice, and to create a better outdoor culture – one that empowers every individual to reach their fullest potential as humans and stewards of this planet and her people.

The Brave Space Project is a multi-racial, women-led, radically collaborative creative team seeking to decolonize outdoor culture both in front of and behind the lens. Championing traditionally underrepresented voices, their work seeks to amplify character-driven stories that heal our human relationships to each other and to our planet, with a focus on socio-ecological justice, ancestral knowledge, regeneration, and compassionate living.
